Just got back from speaking at the AWS Security Community Day in Mountain View. I spoke about learning network security and using the pfSense firewall in my presentation.

Here’s the full presentation:

As fate would have it, when I got back my firewall was hosed — again. This is not the first time. I’ve written about bugs, rearranged firewall rules, and gateway IPs changed in such a way that it affected routes, providing access between devices that should not have access like a Ubiquiti device to the internet.

This time, I’m not sure what happened because I’m urgently trying to finish a project and have a personal emergency to deal with so this post will be short.

But here’s what happened.

Got back. My husband and I can watch TV fine. That means the gateway to the wifi device is apparently unaffected — or the wifi device is routing through a different interface because someone compromised it and somehow got into the pfSense.
